CrazyMailing is built for mail you do not want to keep. This page marks the edges of that, because the failures people hit with a throwaway address are predictable: nearly all of them come from using one where a permanent mailbox was needed.

The single test

Ask whether you might ever need this address to get back into something. If the answer is yes, or maybe, use a real mailbox instead.

That rules out banking and payment accounts, government and tax portals, employment, shipping notifications, domain registration, cloud storage, and any service holding files or money you would miss. A recovery address has to outlive the account it protects. Every address here is engineered to expire, the opposite requirement, and no support request will rescue an account whose recovery address has ceased to exist.

The same goes for anything carrying a warranty, a subscription or a receipt you may need later. Convenience today, locked out in a year, is a bad trade that becomes visible long after you made it.

A guest mailbox is readable by whoever knows the address

There is no password on a guest mailbox. The address itself is the only key, and short or memorable addresses get guessed, sometimes by people doing nothing more than typing likely words into this site. Treat guest mail as visible to strangers.

That is a fair trade for a discount code, and not for anything you would mind being read. Mailboxes belonging to a registered account are private to that account, but even those sit on a free ad supported service, which is not a secure channel and is not offered as one.

Delivery is not guaranteed

Many senders refuse mail to known disposable domains, and the lists they consult change constantly. A message may therefore never arrive, and we usually have no way to know it was attempted. Nothing here can promise that a given site will accept a given address.

Scripts and remote content are stripped before display, which removes the most common tracking, but that cannot make a hostile attachment safe or a fraudulent link honest. Apply the caution you would in any inbox, and slightly more.
